Things to do With Your Kids in the Summer

Summer is a great opportunity to spend some extra time with your kids. They’re out of school and enjoying the warm weather, which means it’s time for you to get more creative in the activities you can do together! With all this extra time on your hands, there’s a plethora of fun ways to further bond with your child that are educational, nurturing, and can help to enrich their lives by learning new skills:

Cooking

Cooking with kids can sometime be a messy experience, but there’s a bunch of foods that are easy to make while also being fun – like pizza! ”Cooking is also a great opportunity to teach your child about general nutrition and portion sizes. This will help them with their overall health later as the grow into an adult. It’s also a great chance to put math to use in a real practical way!” says, jason gooding ,from activekids.com. Try cutting the recipe in half or doubling it and allow your child to figure out how much of each ingredient you need to use. Putting these simple math skills to work in the real world is not only a great group exercise for kids to show why what they’re learning in school is important, but it will also help to keep them from forgetting everything they’ve learned while on summer vacation.

Make Your Own Drinks

Kids love sugary drinks, but sugar isn’t good for them, nor do you want to deal with a wound-up kid on a sugar high! Show them how to make some of their own flavored drinks that don’t involve a lot of sugar. Watermelon water is a great and easy example of this. Cut up some watermelon, put it into a jug of water, and you’re done! Flavored water without any added sugar that was also a fun project to create together.

Play Games

Games come in all shapes, sizes, and imaginations. Nowadays it’s hard to get the kids off of their phones or computers and away from video games or the TV. Interacting and playing with your kids is a great way to unglue them from the screen. Board games and card games can be lots of fun when played with the whole family. Or even better, go play some games outside like badminton or basketball. Getting sunshine and exercise is vitally important for kids and they will be much more likely to do this if you’re playing along with them. Playing make believe games helps to stimulate the imagination and adds to creativity for kids of all ages!
